As a senior, Zach Smith had one of the finest seasons in UCSB golf history...Became the first Gaucho player during the Regional era to qualify for the NCAA Champioships...Finished second at the NCAA Pullman Regional with a career-best 13-under par 197, qualifying him for the NCAA Championship Tournament at Fayetteville, Ark....At the Regional, Smith carded a pair of 5-under par rounds, including the third and final round, as well as a 3-under par round...At the NCAA Tournament, he did not advance after the third round, but after three rounds, he was tied for 65th with a 10-over par 226...Smith was named First Team All-Big West Conference following the regular season, marking the third time he was selected to the first team and the fourth time he earnerd all-league honors overall...Easily led the team with a stroke average of 71.06...Was at or under par in 24 his his 36 rounds...Had seven top-four finishes...In additon to his second-place finish at the Pullman Regional, Smith finished second at the Jackrabbit Invitational with a 5-under par 211...Tied for second at the Bill Cullum Invitational at 8-under par...Also tied for second at the UC Santa Barbara Collegiate at 1-under...Finished third at the John Burns Intercollegiate at 8-under par...Also finished third at the Big West Championship at even-par...Had a fourth-place finish at the UC Irvine Invitational where he was 1-under.

Smith had another outstanding season in 2016-17...For the second straight year, Smith was named First Team All-Big West as he helped to lead the Gauchos to the 2017 Big West Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament...Led the team with a 71.96 shot average over 37 rounds...Took part in all 13 competitions for UCSB in 2017...Garnered six top-10 finishes...Won the individual medalist honors at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic when he carded a 10-under par 206 for a one-shot victory...Recorded a second-place finish at teh Folino Invitational when he finished with a 2-under 214...Tied for third at the PRO Compression Invitational with a 6-under par 210...Carded a season-best 6-under 66 in the first round of the PRO Compression Invitational...Smith had a pair of fourth-place finishes as well as he tied for fourth wiht a 5-under par 211 at the Cal Poly Shootout and then finished fourth by himself with a 4-under 212 at the Big West Conference Championship...In all, he shot 18 rounds under par and another six at par...Carded eight rounds in the 60s, tied for the team lead...Shot at or under par in seven of 13 competitions.

Recorded 1,946 shot in his 33 rounds for a average of 72.33 shots per round... 18 of his 33 rounds were at or under par...Had four top-10 finishes... Tied for 10th LMU invitational at even-par 216... Tied for ninth at the Bill Cullum Invitational while shooting 67 and 68 in the first two rounds...Finished second at the UC Riverside Winter Intercollegiate scoring a 3-under par...Tied for sixth at the Big West Championship scoring 1-over par 217...Had top-25 finishes in ten of his eleven tournaments in 2015-2016.
