Gauchos Drop Regular Season Finale, Earn Three Seed in The Big West Championships

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — The UC Santa Barbara Softball team fell to Cal State Fullerton with a final score of 3-1 at Campus Diamond in the final game of the regular season. As the regular season concludes, the Gauchos clinched the No. 3 seed for The Big West Championships. The Gauchos recorded one home run and six hits, but the Titans' two-run fifth inning secured their victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the rubber match of the series, it was the Titans that earned the series victory. In the second inning, Emily Carr hit a solo home run to right center, leveling the score at 1-1 after the Titans had taken the lead with a home run of their own in the top of the second. The score was tied at 1-1 at the end of the second inning.

The fifth inning saw Cal St. Fullerton break the tie. Arce's double to left center drove in two runs, giving the Titans a 3-1 lead. The Gauchos could not respond in the bottom of the inning, leaving the score at 3-1 after five innings.

The Gauchos had a chance in the seventh inning with Giselle Mejia leading off the inning by doubling to right center, but the team was unable to capitalize further. The game concluded with the Titans securing a 3-1 victory.
