SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball capped a dominant weekend at their home venue with a 3-1 triumph over Northern Colorado today, bringing their tournament record to 3-0 and their season to 6-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Northern Colorado pushed limits throughout the match, cutting the Gauchos' work out for them. It was neck and neck through the first before UNC pulled ahead at 14-12.
The Bears temporarily held the lead, but Gauchos had a chance at a comeback after tying it up at 18-18. Santa Barbara eclipsed at 20-19 before taking set one 25-22 to kick off the match.
The second set saw the Gauchos' widest win margin of the match, with the Gauchos claiming it 25-17. They had a five point run from 16 to 21 that defined the reason for victory.
Eva Travis led the Gauchos through two, landing 12 out of 16 attacks. Milan Rex paced the offense with 17 assists after the first couple of sets.
It was tense through the third set, with Northern Colorado slowly building a 16-12 lead. The Gauchos managed a tie at 22-22, but the Bears pulled it out 25-23.
Santa Barbara sought redemption in the fourth, which they did earn, but not without an uneasy bout of trailing the Bears. Northern Colorado began a lead at 11-8, which grew to 17-11. Santa Barbara forged through and successfully balanced the score to leave the set 25-23.

– Layanna Green led in hitting percentage, landing 10 out of 14 kill attempts for a proportion of .714
– Travis led the match with 19 total kills
– Rex once again updated her career-high assists, putting up 29
– Cortni Youngblood reached 100 digs for the season, making 15 off the Bears to bring her season total to 114
– Santa Barbara now leads the Big West in assists per set with 12.31
– Kiersten Schmitt provided a solo block and remains tied for first in the Big West for total solo blocks. She also dished out four service aces.
