Oct. 10, 2006

UC Santa Barbara's women received 296 votes for 8th place in this week's national poll, the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday. The women moved up from 9th place last week without racing this weekend and have once again hit an all-time high in the rankings.

Iowa, ranked eighth in last week's poll, dropped to No. 11 this week. Iowa's drop enabled UCSB, to move up one spot in this week's rankings.

The women travel Saturday to Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. to compete on the same course that will be used for the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships. Among those competing are 9 of the top 10 ranked teams in the country and 23 of the top 30 in the national poll.

A field of 192 men's and women's teams is expected to compete in the Pre-Nationals.
