UCSB Men's Team Tries To Build On Successful Opening
Meet
The UCSB men's team will look to build on its successful opening
meet to the 2010 season. On Sept. 4, the Gauchos defeated defending
Big West champion and 2010 league-favorite Cal Poly in a dual meet
at the Campus Lagoon, 24-31. Juan Paredes was the top
collegiate finisher in the 8K race with a time of 24:42.81, the
fastest 8K time by a Big West runner this season. Jeremy Acosta ran a
25:04.56 to finish third in the first meet. His time is also the
third fastest 8K by a league runner this season.
Gaucho Women Favored To Win Second Big West
Title
The UCSB women's team is favored to win its second straight Big
West championship. The Riverside Invitational, which will feature
four fellow-Big West schools, will be a good test, but without
rival Cal Poly there, it will be tough to get a good read on how
the conference race shapes up. The Mustangs edged the Gauchos on
Sept. 4 at the Campus Lagoon, 24-31. In that race, UCSB's Amanda Moreno finished
second to Cal Poly's Kayleigh Tyerman. Both runners broke the
previous course record. Tyerman ran a 17:07.28 and Moreno clocked a
17:16.91 over the 5K course. The two times rank one-two among all
league runners in 5K races this season.

Gaucho Men Ranked 15th In West Region
The UCSB men's team is ranked 15th in the first USTFCCA Poll.

are the fifth league team in the poll. Cal Poly is ranked fifth, UC

13th.
