Women's team, Junior Megan Lewis Earn NCAA All-Academic Honors

The Gaucho women's cross-country team has been honored as a Division I All-Academic team for the 2006 season as announced by the United States Track and Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on February 22. Junior team captain Megan Lewis garnered individual honors being named to the NCAA Division I All-Academic Cross Country Team.
The women's team, the 2006 Big West champions, earned a cumulative grade-point average of 3.350. Long Beach state was the lone other women's team from the Big West on the list. UCSB was given the honor of All-Academic Cross Country Team, with Distinction.
To achieve the designation of an "All-Academic Cross Country Team, with Distinction," an institution's team must compete in an NCAA regional meet and must have a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.25 though the 2006 fall term.
Lewis carried a GPA of 3.82 and was named to the all-region team while a leader on a UCSB team that was nationally-ranked much of the season. To earn All-Academic individual honors, runners were required to have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and also place in the top 15 or top 10 percent of an NCAA regional meet.
