Fullerton, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara topped all collegians Friday evening in the Titan Invitational when the Gauchos' men won their race and the women finished behind only Cal Coast Track Club.
Freshman Lisette Arellano of UCSB was the third collegiate runner and sixth overall, running the 5k course in 18:32. The winner was Jenni Johnson of Cal Coast Track Club in 17:26. The women placed all 5 runners in the top 16. The meet showed great promise for the Gauchos as four freshman and one sophomore competed while the top 10 women sat out in preparation for the Big West Championships.
Arellano was followed in the top 10 by sophomore Christine Bjelland 10th/18:39 who ran the fastest 5k of her career. Three freshman rounded out the scoring for UCSB as freshman Alyssa Brown (18:43), Stephanie Garcia (18:46) and Nicole Anderson (18:48) finished in twelfth, fourteenth and sixteenth respectively.
In the team standings, Long Beach State and San Marcos trailed Cal Coast and UCSB.
