HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - The UCSB women's cross country team competed in their second meet of the season on Saturday, finishing second in the UC Irvine Invitational in a field of 18 teams at Central Park in Huntington Beach.
The Gauchos were led by two runners that finished in the top 5, junior Megan Lewis, a Tracy, Calif. native, took third place on the 5 kilometer course, coming in with a time of 17:59.3. Crossing the line just behind Lewis was sophomore Danielle Domenichelli, from El Dorado Hills, Calif, finishing fourth overall in 18:15.0. Lewis and Domenicheli ran together through 2.25 miles in a pack and then moved up through the field over the last mile.
A second pack of Gauchos employing the same strategy included junior Christie Farson, freshman Alyssa Brown and freshman Katie Voigtlander. Voigtlander (18:45.4), Farson (18:52.2) and Brown (19:00.6) finished in twelfth, fifteenth and nineteenth respectively.
UCSB head coach Pete Dolan took a split squad to compete in the meet of which half were newcomers.
