Resting their top women, the UCSB Gauchos nonetheless raced well against a field of over two hundred athletes and seventeen teams at the UC Irvine Invitational. The Gauchos placed fifth on the 5,000m course that circled Central Park in Huntington Beach, CA, totaling up 163 points. Chico St. finished first with 48 points.
On pace duty for the Gauchos on Saturday, Hadas Moser (Jr.) was UCSB's top finisher with a time of 19:07.2 coming across the line in 19th. Taking the Gaucho pack through two miles in approximately twelve minutes, Moser helped a couple Gauchos put together good early season marks.
Freshman, Liza Hitchner out of Half Moon Bay, CA had a great race as she crossed the tape in 24th place in 19:13.8 minutes. Another freshman and racing in uniform for the first time, Danielle Domenichelli finished 34th as the Gaucho's third runner in 19:33.6. Just a bit behind Domenichelli, Christie Farson (Jr.) was 39th in 19:43.0. Rounding out the Gauchos top five scoring runners, Kristina Moore (Fr.) finished the 5k course in 20:00.8 becoming the 50th racer across the tape.
The UCSB ladies are next scheduled to race at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota on Saturday, September 24th. Those not traveling to Roy Griak will compete at the Stanford Invitational on the same date.
