Santa Barbara, Calif. - A familiar face returns to UC Santa Barbara Cross Country/Track and Field this year as newly minted alumni Jenna Hinkle will be joining this season as the new assistant coach for the 2018-2019 seasons. Although new to the coaching scene, Coach Hinkle will feel right at home as she will be assisting the distance events at her alma mater. She is joined by fellow graduate Kiely Gode as she also makes her return to the program as an assistant coach for the multis and long jump.
Hinkle comes in fresh off finishing an incredible career at UCSB which includes two NCAA Championship appearances in the 1500m, four Big West Conference Championship individual titles (three in track and field, one in cross country), and two school records, one in the 3000m (9:24.41) and one in the 1500m (4:15.39) which she set en route to qualifying for her second NCAA Championship appearance and the NCAA West Regional Meet back in May. In her senior year, she would pull off an unprecedented triple at the 2018 Big West Conference Track and Field Championships where she'd take first in the 1500m, second in the 800m, and first in the 5000m, scoring a total of 28 points over the course of the two day meet. Along with her school records in the 1500m and 3000m, she currently sits on the UCSB all-time list in the 800m (No. 3) and 5000m (No. 3).
Coach Hinkle has been on board since late August so she has already overseen the team's performances at the Mark Covert Invitational as well as the UCSB Lagoon Open. The men were able to finish second at both meets with Nick Randazzo winning both men's races at 8k. The women finished sixth at Mark Covert and third at the Lagoon Open with Katie Camarena and Astrid Rosvall going 1-2 in front of the home crowd.
