  • Guijarro and Ortolan Deliver at NCAA West Regionals

    UCSB seniors Bryan Guijarro and Anthoyn Ortolan led the Gaucho men to an eighth place team finish by virtue of their 11th and 13th place individual finishes. The duo will have to wait for NCAA Selection Saturday, held on November 14th, to see if they have achieved an NCAA individual qualifying performance. The UCSB women placed 20th out of 35 teams and had the fourth best 1-5 spread in the entire competition (37.0 seconds), a theme they developed throughout the entire 2015 season.
  • Cross Country Heads to Seattle for NCAA West Regionals

    The UCSB men's and women's cross country teams are headed to Seattle, WA to take on the west in the NCAA West Regional. Hosted by the University of Washington, the competition will take place at the Jefferson Park Golf Course. The men will step up from their conference distance of 8,000m to a 10,000m course. The women will remain at the 6,000m distance.
  • UCSB Men Sweep 1-3, Repeat as Big West Champions; Women Second at Big West Cross Country Championships

    The UCSB men successfully defended their Big West team title by way of a 1-2-3 sweep of the podium. Seniors Bryan Guijarro, Anthony Ortolan and Shyan Vaziri did the heavy lifting and carried the Gauchos to a narrow five point win over Central Coast rival Cal Poly. The UCSB women had their best conference result in five years, placing second to Cal Poly, breaking a string of four consecutive third place team finishes.
  • Gauchos Locked and Loaded for Big West Cross Country Championship

    The UCSB men's and women's cross country teams will travel to UC Riverside to compete in the 2015 Big West Cross Country Championships this Saturday, October 31st. The race will be held on the UCR Ag/Ops Course which is roughly 85 percent flat with a few rolling hills covered with hard-packed dirt. The course runs through the shade of 100-year-old orange groves and eucalyptus trees. The course is known for fast racing, making it an exciting venue for a championship meeting. It is also know to be spectator friendly, so bring a good pair of running shoes as you'll need them to get to each of the viewing points along the course.
  • Hinkle, Goyette and Tsolis Talk Cross Country, Secret Study Spots and More

    WIth less than a week to go before the Big West Cross Country Championships, three UCSB women's cross country runners sat down and discussed a variety of topics including strength training, secret study spots at UCSB, graduate school and working together as a team. Seniors Maxine Goyette and Tori Tsolis alongside sophomore Jenna Hinkle give us the scoop.
  • Men 10th at Pre-Nationals, Hinkle Runs No. 1 For First Time In Career

    Led by a trio of seniors, the UCSB men took an impressive 10th place finish at the Pre-National race held in Louisville, KY. Bryan Guijarro, Anthony Ortolan and Shyan Vaziri helped the Gauchos defeat three teams ranked in the top-30 in the NCAA, while toppling several teams ranked in the top-five in their respective regions. Jenna Hinkle ran No. 1 for the first time in her career, leading the UCSB women to a 15th place team showing.
  • Cross Country Heads to Louisville for Pre-Nationals

    The UCSB men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Louisville this weekend for the Pre-National meet. In now a tradition that dates back decades, the school hosting the NCAA Championships offers an early glimpse of their course while providing an opportunity for teams for add valuable "at-large" points for qualifying purposes.

    UCSB senior Sarah Schreck ran No. 1 for the first time in her career, leading the Gauchos to a fifth place team finish at the Stanford Invitational.

    The UCSB cross country teams will travel to Stanford this Saturday, September 26th, for the 42nd Annual Stanford Invitational. The Gauchos will compete a squad of eight women and seven men, scoring their top-five in each gender for overall team placing.
  • Cross Country Men Second, Women Third at UCR Invitational

    RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The UCSB men recorded a second place team finish at the UC Riverside Invitational while the UCSB women placed third overall. Working together as one unit, both squads placed their 1-5 runners across the finish line within 20 seconds of each other. Anthony Ortolan and Maxine Goyette, both UCSB seniors, led the way for the Gauchos.
  • Cross Country Season Preview; Squads Head South for UC Riverside Invite

    SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Gaucho cross country teams will head to UC Riverside this weekend for the UCR Invite. After splitting with Cal Poly in the opening meet of the season last weekend, the Gaucho men look to continue their hot streak dating back to last season's Big West win. The women will be in search of solidifying their top-five scoring order and improving upon their UCR Invite runner-up finish out of a 23 team field one year ago.
  • Cross Country Squads Split with Cal Poly; Guijarro Leads Men to Victory

    UCSB senior and reigning Big West Champion Bryan Guijarro put on an excellent display of racing as he led the UCSB men to victory over the visiting Cal Poly Mustangs. In an early season showdown of last years top-two conference teams, the Gauchos saw their scoring five runners finish in the top eight. UCSB senior, Maxine Goyette, led the Gauchos women to a second place team finish.
  • Gauchos Open Cross Country Season at Home vs. Cal Poly

    The UCSB Cross Country squads will open their 2015 fall campaign at home this Saturday, Sept. 5th with the Lagoon Open. In a showcase of two of the top distance programs in the Big West, the Gauchos will welcome the Cal Poly Mustangs as well as a number of open and high school athletes competing in a variety of sections.
