Smith showed remarkable improvement from her freshman cross season into the spring, where she broke into the scoring column in the 10,000m on the track, a rare feat for a freshman in the Big West. Look for her to successfully attempt the grueling 10-5 double in 2016 and challenge the UCSB All-Time lists.

2014-2015 Outdoor
Smith took the line in 10 races over the course of eight meets during her freshman track season.  Smith opened at the Round-Up with a 10:45.00 effort in the 3,000m. By early May, it was a different story as Smith placed fifth at the Cal Poly Dual in the 3,000m, this time with a 10:09.02 clip, showing rapid improvement through the season. At the Bryan Clay Invite she ran a personal best in the 5,000m, crossing the line in 17:27.77. Had a breakout performance at the Big West Championships, withstanding the Riverside heat to place sixth in the 10,000m and ninth in the 5,000m. Her 10,000m time was 38:03.53- her first attempt at that distance on a track.

2014 Cross Country
Smith competed in six competitions during her first year wearing the Gaucho blue. Opened the year running No. 7 at the Lagoon Race, finishing the 5k loop in 19:05. Also finished No. 7 at the UC Riverside Invitational, placing 68th in a field of 172 runners with a time of 22:38.6 in her first 6k effort. Ran No. 1 for the Gauchos at Cal State San Bernardino, placing sixth in a field of 80 runners with a time of 23:12.7. Gained valuable experience, traveling with the squad to Pre-Nationals where she finished 109th overall with a time of 23:36.3, taking the No. 4 spot for her first scoring appearance with the "A" team. Ran No. 6 at the Big West Championships, finishing 28th in 21:55.3. Placed 181st at the NCAA West Regional, finishing in 23:26.2.

Just a year earlier she had placed 63rd overall at the State XC Champs, showing incredible improvement from her junior to senior campaigns. On the track she found success in the 3200m, racing into the CIF San Diego Section Finals. She holds the Poway school record in the 5,000m. She led her team to a second place team finish at the 2013 CIF Championships. High school coaches were Dan Schaitel and Bruce Jackson.
