Cross Country Runs Strong at Northridge

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara had a solid performance at the Northridge Invitational on Saturday as the Gauchos posted several strong finishes despite sending only a handful of runners.

Freshmen Maxine Goyette and Ali Palmer finished second and third, running the 5k course in 18:16.67 and 18:18.73 respectively. They were the only two Gaucho women in the race. Running unattached, Ashley Beechan was fourth in 18:22.15, Harper Cooksley finished eighth in 18:38.67 and Jessy Hansen was 15th in 18:55.73.

On the men's side, sophomore Andrew Farkas ran a 25:47.13 8k to finish in fifth-place, while freshman Abel Mogesse ran 25:58.19 to place eighth.  Another freshman, Shyan Vaziri, was 24th in a time of 26:53.71.  Only three UCSB men ran as the rest of the team was at Pre-Nationals in Louisville.

Several other Gaucho men ran unattached in the meet.  Freshman Adam Avila finished third in a time of 25:37.08, while Austin Goodheart (26:46.21), Bradford Littooy (26:47.57) and Alec Dominguez (26:48.46) were 21st, 22nd and 23rd.

The Gauchos will return to competition on October 19th at the Fullerton Invitational in Fullerton, Calif.
