This Week In Water Polo No. 17 UC Santa Barbara will host its' first home game of the season against No. 1 ranked UCLA this Saturday at UC Santa Barbara's Reccreation Center Pool. The Gauchos hold an overall record of 4-8, and are 0-2 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. In the midst of an eight game losing streak, the Bruins will be a challenging match for the Gauchos this Saturday.

Scouting the Bruins UCLA has had an impressive season thus far, ranked No. 1 on the National College Women's Poll and No. 1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The Bruins hold an overall record of 17-0 and are 3-0 in the MPSF. The Bruins most recently pulled off an exciting sudden victory win against No. 2 Stanford (8-7) on February 24th. Junior attacker Katie Rulon leads UCLA in scoring with a total of 36 goals, ranking her 7th out of all MPSF leading scorers. UCLA leads the conference in team goals with an outstanding total of 223 and average of 12.12 goals per game.

Gauchos Finish 16th in UC Irvine Invitational The Gauchos struggled during the weekend's tournament losing four straight games, three of which were against MPSF conference opponents. UCSB faced No. 3 Cal in the tournament opener and was defeated 7-2. The Gauchos then faced conference opponent No. 13 Long Beach State for the second time this season, which ended in an overtime defeat. With the score 11-11 at the start of the first overtime, the Gauchos went scoreless during overtime play while the 49ers scored two goals and defeated UCSB 13-11. The Gauchos finished with a pair of one-point losses on Sunday against No. 14 Cal State Northridge (8-7) and No. 16 UC San Diego (8-7). After four tough games, UCSB finished 16th in the tournament.

Standout Performance UCSB's junior utility, Gillian Morgan, has become the Gaucho's strongest offensive threat this season. Morgan leads the team in scoring with a total of 31 goals and a scoring average of 3.33 goals per game. Morgan had a season high of five goals against Cal State Bakersfield in the second game of the Roadrunner Mini Tournament. Morgan is also ranked 2nd out of all MPSF leading scorers. Morgan also had a game high performance of four goals against No. 13 Long Beach State during last weekend's UC Irvine Invitational.

Coming Attractions UCSB will continue their home stretch facing two top-10 ranked teams next week. Friday, March 7 UCSB will play No. 2 Stanford and Saturday, March 8 UCSB will play No. 8 San Jose State. Both games are scheduled to be played at the Recreation Center Pool.
