The Week Ahead
After going 2-2 in La Jolla, at the UCSD Triton Invitational, and then enjoying three weeks of rest, the Gauchos dive back into tournament play this weekend in Irvine, Calif.. UCSB will open up the UC Irvine Invitational against No. 3 UCLA on Saturday, at 11:30 am. Should they win, the Gauchos will pay the victor of the 12:45 pm game between No. 5 Michigan and No. 13 San Diego State. In the event of a loss, the Gauchos will square off against the loser of that same match. On Sunday, UCSB will participate in two more games. The opponents and times of these matches will be determined by day 1 tournament play.
For The Record.
After playing 11 games in the first two weeks of the season, including eight against nationally ranked opponents, the Gauchos currently hold a record of 6-5. UCSB also ranks 14th in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Top-20 Poll.
Beating the Bruins
Saturday the Gauchos will take on No. 3 UCLA. The Bruins are 9-3, and are coming off of four straight wins. including victories over No. 4 California (10-2) , and No. 9 Cal State Northridge (9-2). This weekend UCSB looks to start a new trend, with a win over the Bruins to open the UC Irvine Invitational.
Aztecs or Wolverines?
If the Gauchos surpass UCLA, they will move on to play an evening game against the winner of the match between Michigan and San Diego State.
