This Week In Water Polo
No.16 UC Santa Barbara will travel to La Jolla, Calif. to play in the UC San Diego Triton Invitational this Saturday and Sunday. The Gauchos will open the tournament against No.10 Hartwick, who appeared in the NCAA tournament last season. UCSB will play either UC Davis or Redlands in their second game on Saturday.

Mini Tournament
UCSB opened the 2008 season last weekend with two strong performances.The Gauchos dominated Fresno Pacific, 26-3 in their first game. Gillian Morgan and Christie Clark led the team with 4 goals each. In their second game, the Gauchos inched by No. 20 Cal State Bakersfield in an exciting 14-13 overtime win. The Gauchos outscored the Roadrunners 3-2 in overtime. Once again, Morgan had an outstanding performance leading the squad with 5 goals. The Gauchos are now ranked No.16 on the Collegiate Water Polo Association Top-20 Poll.

Coaches' Column
In her first season as the head coach of UC Santa Barbara women's water polo team, Jenn Durley is excited to see her team grow and improve this season. Durley comes to Santa Barbara after spending four seasons as the top assistant coach for University of Michigan. She is eager to match-up against No. 10 Hartwick this Saturday. The Gaucho's performance will be a true measuring stick of the team's capabilities this season.

2007 in Review
UCSB finished the 2007 season 16-22 overall along with a 3-14 MPSF record. Season highlights included wins against five schools on the National Collegiate Women's Top 20 Poll. At the UCSD Invitational, the Gauchos defeated No.12 Santa Clara 9-7 (2/10/07) along with No.12 Hartwick 12-6 (2/11/07). The team traveled to the UC Irvine Tournament beating No.14 UCSD 8-5 (2/24/07). Continuing their streak, the Gauchos dominated No.18 Michigan 9-7 in the ASU Tournament (3/1/07). UCSB concluded the season beating No.18 Santa Clara for a second time 9-4 (3/14/07). Morgan led the Gauchos with a season total of 49 goals.

Coming Attractions
The Gauchos will travel to Long Beach State to take on the No. 14 49ers, Saturday Feb.,16 in their first conference game. After this MPSF match-up, the team will participate in the UC Irvine Tournament Saturday, Feb. 23 and Sunday, Feb. 24. This tournament schedule has yet to be released.
