• The Week Ahead
After opening the season with two home wins, the Gauchos will head to the San Francisco bay area for a long weekend. On Thursday they'll face No. 19 Santa Clara, before traveling to Berkeley the following day for the Northern California Invitational. On Friday, the Gauchos will play Hawai'i and California, ranked No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Saturday UCSB will square off against Sonoma State, before taking on top-ranked Stanford.

• For The Record
UCSB started off the 2010 season with a pair of wins, in the Gaucho Mini Tournament. After defeating Cal State Bakersfield (1-1), 5-3, and Pomona-Pitzer (0-2), 12-6, the Gauchos carry a record of 2-0. After week one, UCSB ranks 15th in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Top-20 Poll.

• Bucking The Broncos
Thursday the Gauchos face No. 19 Santa Clara for the Broncos' first game of the season. The last time UCSB played Santa Clara was February 10, 2007, when the Gauchos upset the 12th ranked Broncos in a 9-7 victory.

• A Familiar Foe
In the first round of the Northern California Invitational, UCSB will become reacquainted with third ranked University of Hawai'i. As a former member of the MPSF, the Gauchos have a long history with the Rainbow Wahine. This weekend, the Gauchos look for revenge as Hawai'i has topped UCSB in their last five meetings.

• Beating the Bears
The Gauchos last saw Cal on Feb. 3, 2008 when they suffered a 7-2 defeat to the then fifth-ranked Bears. The prior year, the fourth-ranked Bears needed two four-goal periods to slip past 12th ranked UCSB with a score of 10-7. Saturday the Gauchos look to successfully upset fourth ranked California in what will be the Bears first contest of the season.

• Stifling the Seawolves
In day two of the tournament, UCSB will square off against Sonoma State for Saturday's first match. UCSB faced the Seawolves last year, coming away with an 11-6 victory, on April 18, 2009.

• The Cardinal Rule
In their final, and probably toughest match of the weekend, the Gauchos face perennial powerhouse Stanford. UCSB has dropped its last two games against the Cardinal and aims to make a statement this weekend against the top-ranked team in the nation.

• Featured Freshman
Last weekend four freshman scored the first goals of their UCSB careers. Nancy Ruano, Selina Rivera and Rachel Nelson each posted a goal, while Kacey Creek scored two in the 12-6 win over Pomona-Pitzer.

• We're Going Streaking
Three Gauchos are currently amidst scoring streaks: Claire Buchanan, Katie Kepner, and Christie Clark. Buchanan is amidst a five game streak, dating back to April 24, 2009 against Pacific. In that time she has notched eight goals, including three multiple goal games. Kepner and Clark have both started this season on a roll with three game scoring streaks. Clark posted three goals in this weekend's games, while Kepner put up two of her own.

• Goalie Gossip
UCSB has played all three of it's goalies this season. Against Cal State Bakersfield, freshman Ruth Milne played the entire game, recording a total of 10 saves. In the Pomona-Pitzer game, junior Chelsea Carrillo and freshman Sarah Zuziak split time, each grabbing 6 saves. Carrillo was the Gauchos' starter in 2009, recording 135 saves and posting a 9.1 goals against average,

• On The Road Again
Following this weekend's Northern California road games, UCSB will head to La Jolla, Calif. the following weekend, to play in the UCSD Triton Invitational. Then the Gauchos return to Santa Barbara for a three week rest, before hitting the road yet again, to play in the UCI Invitational in Irvine, California.
