SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Tenth ranked UC Santa Barbara played a close match against Arizona State and rose to the occasion winning 6-5. Freshman Addison Doud of the Sun Devils hit the back of the cage three times. The Gaucho's Jen D'Anna and Alaina Whitaker each contributed two goals to UCSB's win.
Doud of ASU scored the first goal of the game early in the first quarter. UCSB's Gillian Morgan answered back followed by Whitaker. Doud scored two goals in a row in the second quarter bringing the score to 3-2, ASU at halftime.
The Sun Devil's Tessa Wyborny opened scoring for the second half. The Gauchos retaliated with two more goals; one by Sarah Kovach and the other by D'Anna. The score was tied 4-4 going into the fourth quarter. D'Anna of UCSB took charge early rattling the cage for her second time in the match. Rowie Webster of ASU answered back. Whitaker scored her second goal of the match ending the game with a Gaucho win, 6-5.
This win brings the Gauchos record to 9-9 overall and 2-4 in MPSF. UCSB continues action tomorrow when they host Marist at 8 a.m., University of Redlands at 1:15 p.m., and Santa Clara at 3:30 p.m.
