SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - 10th ranked UC Santa Barbara put up a good fight against No. six California, but, it was not enough. Allison Gold and Stephanie Schnugg each scored two goals for the Golden Bears helping them to their 6-5 victory.
Cal opened the scoring with a goal by Schnugg in the first quarter. UCSB quickly retaliated. Katya Eadington snuck one in at the end of the first quarter making the score 2-1, Cal. Freshman Gillian Morgan tied it up halfway through the second quarter, but Schnugg answered back with her second goal of the game bringing the score to 3-2 Cal at half time.
Allison Gold scored her first goal for the Golden Bears early in the second half. The Gauchos' Lindsay Knott came back with a goal, but Cal's Brittani Llorente quickly retaliated. The score was 5-3 Golden Bears after the third quarter. Halfway through the fourth quarter UCSB rattled the cage again. Junior ZiZi Clark of the Gauchos followed bringing the game to 5-5. The tie was broken by Gold of California leading the Golden Bears to their 6-5 win.
UCSB is now 7-9 overall and 0-4 in MPSF play. The Gauchos continue action tomorrow against Pacific at 12 p.m. at UCSB's Campus Pool.
