DAVIS, Calif. - No. 8 UC Davis used strong third and fourth periods to lift itself over No. 12 UC Santa Barbara, 9-5, at Schaal Aquatics Center on Saturday morning. The Aggies improve to 11-4 for the season while the Gauchos fall to 6-7 overall. Senior center Sarah Kovach led the UCSB with two goals while Laura Uribe had three for UCD.

Senior utility ZiZi Clark struck first blood for the Gauchos on the opening series, delivering a long lob that went untouched into the Aggie net, catching the Davis goalie asleep between the posts. Two minutes later, sophomore defender Amanda Tipton scored from four meters to send UCSB up by 2-0.

UC Davis got on the board with less than a minute remaining in the first quarter when junior Christi Raycraft drew a five-meter exclusion and Uribe converted the penalty shot. Kovach tacked on another goal with four seconds left in the quarter with a shot from the one position.

Neither team could score more than one goal in the second period -- one from Aggie Ashley Chandler and one from Gaucho senior attacker Allie Carkin --to give Santa Barbara a 4-3 halftime lead.

The Aggies tied the game at 4-4 when Raycraft assisted Mary Lowe on a 6-on-5 goal with 4:31 in the third. Uribe then gave UC Davis its first lead of the game, scoring on a seven-meter skip shot at the 2:49 mark. Kovach knotted the score at five, just under the two-minute mark, but Uribe struck again on the next possession. She fired a low missile from eight meters out that barred in off the right post.

UC Davis tacked on three unanswered goals in the fourth to pull away with the win. The Gauchos drew an ejection early in the period to give themselves a chance to cut the margin to a single goal, but Davis goalie Amber Korner stopped Kovach's 6-on-5 attempt. On the ensuing Aggie possession, O'Rourke scored from two-meters to push her team ahead by 8-5 and Raycraft scored the last goal of the game with 2.04 remaining in the game.

The Gauchos travel down to Pacific for a Saturday afternoon conference match at 3 p.m.
