Irvine, Calif. -
After dropping its first game of the Irvine Invitational to Hawaii, the Gauchos defeated No. 14 UC San Diego in their second game of the day, 8-5. Santa Barbara improves to 6-4 with the victory and will go on to face San Diego State on Sunday in Irvine.

Senior defender Aimee Stachowski scored less than a minute into the second period and senior attacker Allie Carkin to put the Gauchos up 3-1. The Tritons tacked on another goal but Santa Barbara responded with one more of its own from Stachowski to go into the half with a 4-2 lead.
UCSB opened the third period with a 2-0 run to distance themselves from the Tritons, who scored one more with 32 second remaining in the third quarter. Junior attacker Lindsay Knott scored to begin the final period and put four goals between the two teams. The Tritons and the Gauchos traded goals but Santa Barbara's early lead put it over the top and UCSB won the game, 8-5.
