Irvine Defeats UCSB 7-4

IRVINE, Calif. -
No. 13 UC Santa Barbara lost to No. 10 UC Irvine for the second time this season (7-4), today at Irvine's Anteater Aquatics Complex.
The Gauchos took the lead in first quarter outscoring the Anteaters two to one. Lindsay Knott and Gillian Morgan each scored a goal a piece in the first quarter. The Gauchos went scoreless in the second as Irvine chipped in two more goals.
Amanda Tipton tied the score 3-3 in the third, but the Anteaters pulled ahead by two in the last minutes of the quarter. Morgan added one more goal in the fourth, but it was not enough to defeat the Anteaters. The Anteaters scored two more goals in the fourth and the game ended with a final score of 7-4.
Morgan led the Gauchos with two goals and goalie Jenny Gonzales finished with three saves.
The Gauchos now stand with an overall record of 4-4 and are 0-2 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference play.
The Gauchos will face No. 5 Cal in the opener of the UC Irvine Tournament, tomorrow Saturday, February 23 at 12:45 pm.
