No. 12 UC Santa Barbara lost its' first conference match-up against No. 14 Long Beach State this Saturday, 10-6, at 49er Pool, in Long Beach Calif.
Long Beach State came out strong against UC Santa Barbara in the third quarter after a close first half. The Gauchos stayed within a point of the 49ers for the first two quarters, but were outscored one to six in the third quarter. UCSB bounced back in the fourth quarter outscoring Long Beach three to one. Gillian Morgan, Lindsay Knott, and Lizzie Rouleau each chipped in a goal during the last quarter. Unfortunately, their scoring efforts were not enough to withstand the 49er offense.
Morgan led the Gauchos with two goals and goalie Jenny Gonzales finished with a total of five saves.
The Gauchos will travel to Irvine, Calif. to face UC Irvine in a second conference match-up Saturday, February 22, at 3:00 pm.
