No. 16 Gauchos Finish in Fifth Place with 12-6 Upset over No. 12 Hartwick in Triton Invitational

No. 16 Santa Barbara avenged last week's loss to No. 12 Hartwick with a 12-6 win over the Hawks to take fifth place at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational on Sunday afternoon in San Diego, Calif. Amanda Tipton led all scorers with three goals in the game.
The Gauchos opened up the match with a goal two minutes into the match from sophomore driver Amanda Tipton. UCSB junior attacker Lindsay Knott converted on a power play to give the Gauchos another goal. After Hartwick scored its first goal of the game, Santa Barbara responded with a 2-0 run to give them the 4-2 advantage at the end of the first period.
The Hawks scored first to open up with second period and the teams continued to trade scores for the remainder of the quarter. After four minutes of no goals, freshman center Lizzie Rouleau scored for UCSB. Hartwick responded 20 seconds later with a goal and shortly thereafter, freshman attacker Alisha Khan scored for UCSB. The Hawks closed out the half with a goal to bring them within one.
The Gauchos put in an early goal from senior center Sarah Kovach to begin the second half. Tipton scored her third goal of the game to give UCSB an 8-5 advantage before Hartwick scored again. Santa Barbara closed out the game with four uncontested goals to take seventh place in the tournament.
The Gauchos play host next weekend to UC Irvine and Cal State San Bernardino at Campus Pool in Santa Barbara.
