No. 16 Santa Barbara Falls to No. 6 San Diego State, 8-7

Feb. 11, 2007

San Diego, Calif. - Following Saturday morning's 9-7 victory over No. 12 Santa Clara, the No. 16 Gauchos went on to face No. 6 San Diego State at UC San Diego's Triton Invitational. Santa Barbara took an early 4-1 lead over the Aztecs but San Diego State scored the game-winner with 55 remaining in the game to take the game.

The Gauchos forced the Aztecs to play catch-up throughout the first 2.5 quarters. UCSB grabbed an early 4-1 advantage before SDSU began to chip away at the lead in the second period. Consecutive goals by San Diego State knotted things up at 4-4, but the Gauchos countered just moments later to take a 5-4 lead into intermission.

The Aztecs tied the game for a second time at five all at the 4:45 mark. A little over two minutes later, San Diego State found the back of the net to give the Aztecs their first lead of the game at 6-5. The San Diego State defense kept UCSB off the scoreboard until a Gaucho goal tied the score at 6-6 with a minute gone by in the fourth quarter.

The Aztecs regained the upper hand at 7-6 with a goal with 6:30 to play. UCSB climbed off the ropes once again, however, scoring the equalizer just under three minutes later. San Diego State put an end to the seesaw affair as her score with 55 seconds remaining provided the winning margin.

The Gauchos will close out the Triton Invitational with two games Sunday.
