UCSB Defeats Northridge in Last Conference Game of the Season

Santa Barbara, Calif. - No. 15 UCSB were able defeat No. 9 Cal State Northridge 8-7 in their last home game of the season, as well their last regular season Big West Conference match before heading to the Big West Championships next week. 

The game started out with back-and-fourth goals by both teams where Sophomore Samantha Murphy and Freshman Jenna Solberg were each able to get a goal for the Gauchos. The second quarter started out with a quick goal from the Matadors, but was returned with a shot and goal from Sophomore Miranda Schrader. Freshman Brenna Thomas put a shot in the goal for the Gauchos, leaving it tied 4-4 at the half. 

Junior Lauren Martin came out with a bang during the third quarter, scoring two shots out of the set position, giving the gauchos the lead. The Mataors were able to sneak two more goals in, before Freshman Carly Christian hit an outside shot on a man-up advantage, leaving the score 7-6 at the end of the third quarter. 

It was an intense fourth quarter, as the last conference game was on the line for both teams. The Matadors were able to tie up the game mid-way through the quarter, until Sophomore Jessie Porter put one more goal up for the Gauchos. The Gauchos kept up the defense for the remaining four minutes of the quarter, to conclude todays game with a 8-7 win for the Gauchos. 

Honoring our Senior 
Senior Justine Ramos was honored as she participated in her final regular season home match. Justine Ramos has spent four season with the Gauchos. She has played in over half of each of those season's games. For her career at UCSB, she has recorded nine goals, seven assists, ten steals, and seven kick outs drawn.
