No. 13 UC Santa Barbara Falls To No. 6 UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – No. 13 UC Santa Barbara (18-11, 2-3) was unable to overcome the strong No. 6 UC Irvine (16-8, 4-1). The Anteaters defeated the Gauchos 11-5 on Saturday, April 13 at the Anteaters Aquatic Complex.

Coming off an impressive win against No. 8 San Diego State, the Gauchos came out ready to give the Anteaters a tough game.

The Anteaters were able to come out with two consecutive goals to start the game. Freshman Bryn Hudson came out strong for the Gauchos, responding to the Anteaters goals with two of her own to tie the game 2-2 after the first quarter. 

UC Irvine took the second quarter into its hands and kept the Gauchos from scoring a single goal, taking the lead 6-2 at half. 

The Anteaters were able to maintain the lead for the rest of the game, and ultimately grabbed another win to advance their Big West Conference record to 4-1. 

The Gauchos were led by Bryn Hudson who tallied three goals against the Anteaters. Senior Ruth Milne was a force in the goal, notching 12 saves to help the Gauchos defensively. 

UCSB continues their season on Sunday, April 14 against No. 9 Long Beach State at Long Beach at 12 p.m. in hopes of enhancing their Big West Conference record.
