Big West Conference Action This Week
After defeating No. 6 San Diego State University last weekend, No. 13 UC Santa Barbara (19-10, 2-2) looks to carry over its momentum into this weekend's conference action. UCSB will be on the road, first taking on No. 6 UC Irvine (16-8, 4-1) and then traveling overnight to face off against No. 9 Long Beach State (25-4, 4-2) the very next day.
Both matches have important implications as both are Big West Conference games. The Gauchos will be even hungrier for victory as the team suffered earlier losses this season to both the Anteaters and 49ers.
Freshmen Duo Leading the Offense
Freshmen, Samantha Murphy and Jessie Porter are continuing to prove their offensive talents as both are leading the team in goals. Murphy, who earned the title of Big West Player of the Week with her hat trick against San Diego State University, has tallied a total of 65 goals. Fellow freshman Jessie Porter is also having a very productive season with a total of 51 goals.
Anchoring the Defense
Senior leader Ruth Milne is leading the defense with her magnificent play as she has a total of 146 saves thus far in the season. Already the all time saves leader in Gaucho history, Milne now has a total of 1,138 saves throughout her collegiate career.
Closing Out the Season
After this weekend's action, the Gauchos will be back on the road next week as the team travels to face off against No. 14 Cal State Northridge, Friday, April 19 at 4 p.m. The team will then compete in the Big West Championship during April 26-28, at UC Irvine.
