LONG BEACH, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball completed the Baden Thanksgiving Classic with a 30-20, 30-16, 30-25, sweep of Pittsburgh on Saturday evening at Long Beach State's Walter Pyramid.
The win was the Gauchos fourth straight and gives them a 14-18 season record. The Panthers fall to 15-16 on the year.
Junior Lauren McLaughlin led the Gauchos with 18 kills on the match. The outside hitter posted a .405 clip (18k, 3e, 37a) and also had two aces, nine digs, and three block assists.
Sophomore Rebecca Saraceno posted a team-leading and season-best .524 clip with 12 kills on 21 attempts with just one error. The outside hitter tallied an ace to bring her weekend total to eight, and also notched seven digs and two block assists.
Senior Brett Quirarte, who was playing in her last match with UCSB, posted an impressive .474 hitting percentage (10k, 1e, 19a) and also notched four block assists.
Freshman setter Dana Vargas had 48 assists and six digs in the win. Junior libero Leigh Stephenson, who earlier in the day set a new single season dig record for UCSB, notched 12 scoops in the Gauchos' night cap.
Megan Dooley was the only Pittsburgh player to notch double-digit kills with 14 on the match. Setter Nicole Taurence had 16 assists and Michelle Rossi had 18 digs.
The Gauchos posted a weekend-best clip of .353 collectively, including an impressive .429 hitting percentage in game one, while holding Pitt to a .161 team clip.
Tonight's match marked the season finale for the Gauchos, who for the first time in program history will not be participating in the NCAA Tournament. This season also marked the first time a UCSB team has finished a season with a record below .500.
In addition to Quirarte, senior Lauren Smith also celebrated her final match with the Gauchos this evening.
