ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Senior outside hitter Charlene DeHoog continued her weekend dominance for the UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team, posting her third consecutive double-double as the Gauchos defeated New Mexico 20-25, 25-20, 25-19, 18-25, 15-10 on Saturday.

For her efforts - DeHoog tallied and 51 kills and 40 digs over the team's three-match weekend - DeHoog was named to the Comcast Lobo Challenge All-Tournament Team. Schmidt was the other Gaucho to achieve All-Tournament honors, the third straight weekend the junior middle blocker has been named to an all-tourney squad.

The Gauchos continued their defensive presence, as four players totaled double-digit dig performances. Kelly Heenan had 15 digs while Vargas added 10. Kasey Kipp had a season-best three solo blocks to lead UCSB, which had 10.0 total team blocks. Kip chipped in nine kills while hitting .438.

As a team the Gauchos hit .284 and held the Lobos (4-5) to a .190 hitting percentage.

After rallying in the first set and finally taking its first lead at 15-14, the Gauchos saw UNM score seven of the set's next 10 points and eventually take the first game.

The second set didn't start much better for the Gauchos as the Lobos took a 5-0 lead. However UCSB eventually tied it at 11-apiece and after UNM pulled to within 15-14, the Gauchos had Kipp, Sherrard, DeHoog, Schmidt and freshman Katey Thompson (seven kills) all chip in with kills to win the game.

UCSB took a two games to one lead in the third after wrestling away from a see-saw battle. Tied at 19-19, Kipp had a pair of kills and the Gauchos used a pair of attack errors from UNM to win the third set.

After UNM led the entire fourth set, eventually winning and tying things up at two-game-apiece, the Gauchos jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the fifth set. The Lobos got as close as 11-8, but Schmidt had a pair of kills, and DeHoog closed things out with a kill to send the Gauchos home with two wins in three matches.

UCSB does not return home until Oct. 1 when it hosts Long Beach State. The latest Legend of the 'Dome will be unveiled at that match.
