Deborah Samson played in 23 matches and 61 games as a freshman defensive specialist...She collected 105 total digs on the season, averaging 1.72 digs per game...Garnered a career-high 14 digs against Pacific at the Thunderdome...Also had 10 digs in a three-game sweep of Idaho in Moscow...Served six aces on the year, with a career-high of two coming against UC Irvine at the Thunderdome...She played in 12 of UCSB's 14 games in the NCAA Tournament, collecting 15 digs...In two games against Nebraska in the Pacific Regional semifinal she had six digs.

Comes to UCSB from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, California...A walk-on, Samson was a four time All-Suburban League selection, helping to lead the Monsoons to three undefeated league championships...Played both outside hitter and defensive specialist as a prepster...Played club volleyball for Ichiban VBC...Also an accomplished track athlete, Samson was the CIF division III champion in the pole vault...She also played basketball in high school.
