Brooke Hanson
Position: Assistant Coach
Brooke Hanson, one of the most versatile players in Gaucho history, returns to UCSB's sidelines to bring her unrivaled competitiveness and leadership qualities to the program as an assistant coach. A 2003 graduate of UCSB with a degree in law and society and a four-year Gaucho letterwinner, Hanson (formerly Niles) is involved with all facets of running a high-profile Division I program, with particular emphasis on mentoring the Gaucho setters. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native put an exclamation mark on her outstanding playing career by earning AVCA Third Team All-American recognition in 2002. As Santa Barbara's starting setter and a team co-captain in 2002, Niles ranked third nationally with 13.95 assists per game, while her 1,437 total helpers were the seventh-most ever in a single season in school history. A three-time All-Big West honoree, she was named the conference freshman of the year in 1999 while primarily playing outside hitter. Niles saw action at every position except middle blocker during her collegiate career, while her 1,323 career digs rank seventh all-time at UCSB. As a coach, Niles guided the Santa Barbara Volleyball Club's traveling team of 16-year-old girls in 2003 after spending two years with the Santa Ynez Volleyball Club. She also coordinates an elite-level beach volleyball summer camp for youth players, held on the UCSB campus.
