UCSB Receives Votes in AVCA Coaches Preseason Poll

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – For the first time in four years, UC Santa Barbara received votes in the AVCA Preseason Coaches Poll. In the first poll of the 2014 season, the Gauchos picked up 26 votes, the second-most among Big West teams. Hawai'i starts the season ranked No. 17, while Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State also collected 19 and 11 votes, respectively. 

The last time UCSB received votes in the preseason poll was August 17, 2010 when it had 51.

Some of UCSB's upcoming opponents were also featured in the poll, as Colorado State made the top-25 at No. 18. Cal drew 111 votes, while Marquette received 102. The Gauchos will open the season with the Golden Eagles on Aug. 30 at the Colorado State Invitational.  

Last week, UCSB was voted No. 3 in the Big West Coaches Preseason Poll, receiving a pair of first-place votes.

The next poll will be published after the first weekend of the season on September 1st.

The Gauchos officially opened practice last weekend, as they are working toward their Big West Title defense.
