• The Week In Review
The Gauchos played five matches in five days last week, the most they will play over a
seven day period this year. UCSB didn't quite get the result they wanted, going 2-3 and
bringing their overall record to 6-5. A loss to No. 13 Oregon was excusable, but the
Gauchos lament the pair of five-game matches they dropped in the New Mexico Tournament.
Leah Sully led the Gauchos in kills in four of the five matches, Britton Taylor being
the leader in the other.

• In Excellent Formico
Freshman libero Taylor Formico looks ready to launch an assault on the UCSB record
book. Formico already has three 30+ dig matches, the first time that a Gaucho has done
that since Emily Hendrickson accomplished the feat in 2006. Taylor is currently on pace for
726 digs, which would shatter the UCSB single-season record of 652 set just last year by
Chelsey Lowe. Formico leads the conference in both digs per game (5.38) and total digs
(242), leading the No. 2 dig-getter Kristin Winkler by a whopping 50 digs.

• Monster Weekend From Sully
Junior outside hitter Leah Sully had a weekend to remember in New
Mexico despite the team's 1-2 showing. Sully recorded 25+ kills in all
three matches, especially impressive considering her career-high in kills
was 18 entering the weekend. Sully recorded the most kills by a Gaucho
over a three-match span, 78, since Rebecca Saraceno had 83 from Oct.
16-23, 2009. For her performance, Sully was a Big West player of the
week nominee, and she now leads the conference in total kills with 180.

• Jenna in the Middle
Junior middle blocker Jenna Wilson has been showing excellent form
recently after being tasked with more offensive responsibilities. Jenna recorded
career highs in both kills (12) and swings (27) against New Mexico,
while recording 10 blocks overall in the tournament. The Gauchos will
need Wilson to keep up her dominance in the middle- UCSB is a perfect
4-0 when Jenna records five or more blocks.

• New Blood
For the second consecutive year, the Gauchos will be fielding a roster
with seven freshmen, tied with UC Riverside for the most first-year players
in the Big West Conference.

•Able Understudy
Freshman outside hitter Alex Barbeau showed her potential over the
weekend after being inserted into the lineup due to injuries. Barbeau
was a key figure in the victory over Georgia Southern, putting down an
impressive 15 kills on the right side while finishing just short of a doubledouble
with nine digs.

• Double-Doubles For Everyone
Showing their versatility, five Gauchos have recorded double-doubles so
far this season. Leah Sully (9 double-doubles) and Ali Santi (8) lead the
way, while Kara Sherrard (2), Katey Thompson (2), and Jaylen Villanueva
(1) have also showed flashes of brilliance.
