Fellow senior Chelsey Lowe was also named a First Team All-West Region selecton as UCSB placed two players on the First Team for the third consecutive season.

Libero Chelsey Lowe, middle blocker Lily Lopez and opposite Stacey Schmidt were all named to the All-Big West First Team – the third straight time for Schmidt to be named a First Teamer. Outside hitter Leah Sully was an Honorable Mention selection and setter Hanna Nielson was named to the All-Big West Freshman Team.

    With an impressive 51 digs in just six sets last week – an astounding 8.50 digs per set – senior libero Chelsey Lowe has tallied 586 digs this season, ranking her fourth all-time in single-season UCSB history. Lowe needs just six to pass Maria Reyes’ 1989 total, which is third, and could catch her predecessor, Leigh Stephenson, who had 650 digs in 2007 for the school’s all-time mark. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native is averaging 5.43 digs per set, ranking her first in the Big West and 21st in the nation.

Lowe has accumulated 1,289 digs in her Gaucho career, passing Liz Towne (1985-88) for 10th in career digs. Next on the list is her predecessor, Leigh Stephenson (2005-08), who had 1,306 digs and Lowe could conceivably catch Brooke Niles (1999-2002), who is eighth with 1,323 career digs.. Lowe, a native of Yorba Linda, Calif., is averaging 5.25 digs per set, which leads the Big West and ranks her 33rd in the country. She has had at least 20 digs in 16 of the Gauchos’ 25 matches and also leads the Big West in digs during conference play (5.38).

The middle blocker is hitting .373 (115-22-249) with an average of 10.45 kills per match and 3.36 total blocks per match (nine solo, 28 assisted). On the season the Santa Ana, Calif. native is hitting a league-best .345 (72nd in the nation) with 2.16 kills per set and 0.84 blocks per set. In conference matches she is hitting .369 (second in the Big West) with 2.44 kills per set and 0.69 blocks per set.

    For the first time this season and the first time since the August 31, 2010 AVCA poll, is UC Santa Barbara receiving votes in the weekly poll. Before getting knocked out of the poll last year the Gauchos had gone 15 straight weeks of receiving votes. The last time UCSB was ranked in the top-25 came on Sept. 12, 2005 when Santa Barbara was No. 24.
