Schmidt, Lowe Named First Team All-West Region Selections
SANTA BARBARA,Calif. – For the second straight season Stacey Schmidt was honored as a First Team All-West Region selection and she wasn't the lone UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball player honored. Fellow senior Chelsey Lowe was also named a First Team All-West Region selecton as UCSB placed two players on the First Team for the third consecutive season.

UCSB Hopes Turkey Time Turns into Tourney Time
Five UC Santa Barbara players were honored by the Big West on Tuesday when the league announced its all-conference picks. Libero Chelsey Lowe, middle blocker Lily Lopez and opposite Stacey Schmidt were all named to the All-Big West First Team – the third straight time for Schmidt to be named a First Teamer. Outside hitter Leah Sully was an Honorable Mention selection and setter Hanna Nielson was named to the All-Big West Freshman Team.

Gauchos Hit the Road for Final 2 Big West Games
With an impressive 51 digs in just six sets last week – an astounding 8.50 digs per set – senior libero Chelsey Lowe has tallied 586 digs this season, ranking her fourth all-time in single-season UCSB history. Lowe needs just six to pass Maria Reyes’ 1989 total, which is third, and could catch her predecessor, Leigh Stephenson, who had 650 digs in 2007 for the school’s all-time mark. The Yorba Linda, Calif. native is averaging 5.43 digs per set, ranking her first in the Big West and 21st in the nation.

Senior libero Chelsey Lowe moved into 10th place all-time in UCSB history with her 40 digs last weekend. Lowe has accumulated 1,289 digs in her Gaucho career, passing Liz Towne (1985-88) for 10th in career digs. Next on the list is her predecessor, Leigh Stephenson (2005-08), who had 1,306 digs and Lowe could conceivably catch Brooke Niles (1999-2002), who is eighth with 1,323 career digs.. Lowe, a native of Yorba Linda, Calif., is averaging 5.25 digs per set, which leads the Big West and ranks her 33rd in the country. She has had at least 20 digs in 16 of the Gauchos’ 25 matches and also leads the Big West in digs during conference play (5.38).

Important Weekend Test Faces Gauchos
Over her last 11 matches, senior Lily Lopez has been a force offensively and defensively. The middle blocker is hitting .373 (115-22-249) with an average of 10.45 kills per match and 3.36 total blocks per match (nine solo, 28 assisted). On the season the Santa Ana, Calif. native is hitting a league-best .345 (72nd in the nation) with 2.16 kills per set and 0.84 blocks per set. In conference matches she is hitting .369 (second in the Big West) with 2.44 kills per set and 0.69 blocks per set.

Gauchos Look to Extend Winning Streak This Weekend
For the first time this season and the first time since the August 31, 2010 AVCA poll, is UC Santa Barbara receiving votes in the weekly poll. Before getting knocked out of the poll last year the Gauchos had gone 15 straight weeks of receiving votes. The last time UCSB was ranked in the top-25 came on Sept. 12, 2005 when Santa Barbara was No. 24.

After a Month on the Road, Gauchos Open Home Schedule on Friday
Senior libero Chelsey Lowe reached the 1,000 dig mark over the last weekend with a career-high 33 pick-ups at Cal State Fullerton and now stands with 1,030 in her Gaucho career (she transferred from USF prior to the 2009 season). The Yorba Linda, Calif. native is averaging 5.02 digs per set, ranking her second in the Big West and 45th in the country. She has had at least 20 digs in eight of the Gauchos’ 14 matches. Lowe has a chance to break into UCSB’s career top-10 by season’s end. Currently, Liz Towne (1985-88) ranks 10th with 1,256 career digs.

Gauchos Open Big West Play on the Road
All-American Stacey Schmidt has been almost like a one-person wrecking crew for the Gauchos. She ranks in the top-10 in the Big West in: hitting percentage (.327, fifth), kills (3.16, 10th), service aces (0.29, fifth) and blocks (1.02, sixth). Schmidt is the lone player in the conference to be ranked in the top-10 in those categories.

UCSB Travels to Pepperdine for Tournament
• All-Tournament, All The Time Following UC Santa Barbara’s season-opening tournament in Provo, Utah, senior Stacey Schmidt was named to the All-Tournament Team. The middle blocker recorded 46 total kills – including 20 vs. No. 8 Illinois – and set a career-high with 11 block assists vs. St. Mary’s. Schmidt hit .356 for the weekend which is outstanding considering the team – including Schmidt’s percentage – batted .086 for the weekend. Schmidt has now been a part of five consecutive All-Tournament Teams, dating back to last season when she was honored in all four tournaments the Gauchos were a part of.
