SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Gaucho distance runner Danielle Domenichelli qualified for USA Nationals in the 10,000m with her second-place performance at the Portland Track Festival.

Domenichelli completed the 25 laps in 33:19.43, which is faster than the UCSB record of 33:23.33 set by Stephanie Rothstein in 2007. Her time also meets the qualifying "A" Standard for USA Nationals, which is 33:45.00.

In early May, Domenichelli also ran faster than the school record in the 5000m with her time of 16:01.03 at Stanford's Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational. Stephanie Rothstein holds the 5000m record as well (16:12.77).

Gaucho assistant coach Avery Blackwell had this to say about Danielle's recent performances:

"Ever since Danielle's All-American 5k race at the 2008 NCAA national championships, her confidence and focus has risen to the highest level.

"I think the results that she as been posting this season are only an indication of the even greater things to come."

Domenichelli, a senior, was an All-American and NCAA National Qualifier in the 5000m in the 2008 track season. She redshirted the 2009 track season and will return for her final year of collegiate competition next spring.
