Last Time
The Big West Multi-Events Championship took place last weekend at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium. The decathlon and heptathlon were the first two scored events of the Big West Championships, and the team points will carry over to this weekend's Championship Meet. For the Gauchos, Barbara Nwaba placed third in the heptathlon with a score of 5000 points, which is the second time Nwaba has cleared the 5000 point barrier. She picked up six points for the women's team. Tayler Willams picked up an additional point for the women by placing eighth with 4497 points. The Gauchos' top scorer in the decathlon was Derek Masterson, who placed ninth with 5980 points.

This Weekend's Meet
The Big West Championship Meet will take place this weekend at UC Irvine's Anteater Stadium. The meet will be held on Friday-Saturday, May 15 and 16, with field events beginning at 11:00 a.m. and track events beginning at 4:00 p.m. each day. Friday's competition will feature finals in eight field events, the steeplechase and the 10,000 meter run. Prelims will held for the rest of the running events, except for the 5000 meter run. Saturday will feature finals in the remaining field events, the running events and relays, and the 5000 meter run.

Alumni Bash
The track and field team will be hosting an alumni bash at this weekend's Big West Championship Meet. Join us in the Presidential Suite of the Embassy Suites at 9:00 p.m. on Friday night to reconnect with past teammates. We will have drinks, food and lots of old memories. There will also be an informal run from the hotel lobby at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Scott Anderson Named Big West Athlete of the Week
Scott Anderson has picked up a pair of Big West Athlete of the Week honors for his recent performances. He was first given the award on April 29 after a pair of solid performances at the Oregon Relays, where he took second in the shot put at 57-7.50 (17.56m) and ninth in the discus at 156-5 (47.69m). He won the award again the next week after breaking the UCSB record in the shot put at the Cal Poly dual meet. Anderson threw 58-8.50 to become the conference leader heading into the Big West Championships.

UC Santa Barbara Athletics presents The 2nd Annual SB Awards show Wednesday, May 20th beginning at 5:30 from the IV Theater. This year's event promises to be a first-class affair with red carpet photos, complimentary appetizers and refreshments and video presentations recognizing the great accomplishments of our student-athletes. The SB Awards are creative, funny and give us the opportunity to honor the amazing young men and women who pour their hearts into this great university while striving to win championships.
