UC Santa Barbara will host its second track meet of the outdoor season as the Gauchos welcome several other conference schools to Pauley Track for the Big West Challenge.
UCSB will be joined by Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State and UC Irvine in the meet which rotates between the schools on an annual basis. The Gaucho women have claimed the title for the last four years, while the men will be looking for their first ever title.
The meet will feature athletes currently ranked in the top-10 nationally from all four schools. Seniors Amy Haapanen, Megan Lewis and Stephanie Rothstein will lead the Gaucho women while juniors Scott Anderson and Reif Lawson lead the men. Haapanen currently sits on top in the Big West shot put, discus and hammer while being nationally ranked 20th, 12th and 5th respectively in the events. Rothstein and Lewis are ranked 1-2 in the Big West 10,000 meters and 6th and 8th on the NCAA national list. Lawson and Anderson are currently the top ranked Big West athletes in the hammer and shot put respectively.
