Last Time
The Gauchos visited USC last weekend to compete in the USC Trojan Invitational, held at Loker Stadium. Several members of the team entered the UCSB record books with performances that made the all-time marks list. These athletes were Kelsey Bolden in the 100m (12.18, 6th all-time), Lauren Kodama in the 400m (56.56, 9th), James Martin in the 400m hurdles (52.36, 5th), Justine Diaz in the 800m (2:12.69, 8th), Michael Guerra in the javelin (202'9", 61.79m, 9th) and Irene Kujore in the shot put (48'8", 14.83m, 3rd). Additionally, Scott Smith ran 3:46.09 in the 1500m to move into the top spot in the West Region, and Jane Doolittle cleared 5'10.75" (1.80m) in the high jump to take the top spot in the West Region.

Cardinal Catalog
Eight members of the Gaucho distance squad will be traveling to Stanford this Friday to compete at the Stanford Invitational, one of the nation's biggest meets. All of the Gauchos will be competing on Friday evening after 7:00 p.m. Danielle Domenichelli, Scott Smith, Waleed Totari and Breanne Strenkowski are entered in the 10,000m races; and Julian DeRubira, Crystal Reed, Amanda Moreno and Katie Voigtlander are entered in the 5000m races.

Heads of State
Cal/Nevada will take place this weekend at UCLA's Drake Stadium. This is a two-day meet which features athletes from across the states of California and Nevada. Saturday's program will feature preliminary heats in all track events at 1500m and shorter, and a distance carnival in the evening featuring finals in the steeplechase, 5000m and 10,000m. Sunday's program features the finals in all remaining track events. On both days, field event finals will be conducted throughout the afternoon. UCLA are the defending team champions on both the men's and the women's side.

Record Chasing
Danielle Domenichelli and Scott Smith will both be eying school records when they run the 10,000m at the Stanford Invitational this Friday. Domenichelli will be competing in her first 10,000m as a Gaucho since she captured the Conference Championship in 2008, where she clocked a time of 36:14.49 that currently stands 6th all-time in Gaucho history. Smith does not yet have an official 10,000m time on record, but he is confident after nearly earning All-American honors during last fall's NCAA Cross Country Championships (a 10k race). Stephanie Rothstein holds the UCSB women's 10,000m record at 33:23.33, which she set in 2007. Josh Horton holds the UCSB men's 10,000m record at 29:09.85, which he set in 2001.

Take Me To Your Leaders
The Gauchos currently have two athletes leading the West Region in three events. Scott Smith is the western leader in the 1500m at 3:46.09, and also leads the 5000m at 14:18.13. Jane Doolittle is tied for the lead in the high jump after clearing 5'10.75" (1.80m) at the USC Trojan Invitational last weekend. Although it is early in the season, these marks will almost certainly remain on the western leaderboard, and both Smith and Doolittle are capable and inclined to further improve their marks.

On The Horizon
On Saturday April 3, 2010, the Gauchos will make a short trip north to compete at the Cal Poly Invitational. Field events will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the first track event set to gun-off at 12:15 p.m. The meet is scheduled to run until approximately 4:00 p.m. More information on this meet will be provided in next week's release.
