Last Time Out
This year's All-Cal Challenge was canceled due to inclement weather. Heavy rain would have caused the meet to encounter constant delays, so the organizers decided it would be best to cancel the event for the safety of the athletes and to avoid wasting time and money on travel arrangements. The Gaucho men thus retain the All-Cal Cup for at least one more year.
UCSB kicked-off the season with the only home meet of the year - The Gaucho Round-Up. Highlights from this meet included Jane Doolittle clearing 5'11" (1.80m) in the high jump, Scott Smith winning the 1500m at 3:51.49 and the 3000m at 8:24.96, Grace Esslinger moving up to second on the UCSB javelin list with a throw of 130'9.50" (39.87m), and James Martin running an impressive 53.08 in his first career 400m hurdles race.
On The Horizon
UCSB will compete at the Ben Brown Invitational this Saturday, March 6. The meet will take place at Cal State Fullerton and will feature a main meet in the afternoon and a distance carnival in the evening. UCSB will have athletes competing in both events. Meet information can be found here. The Gauchos will then have another week off before traveling to USC for the Trojan Invitational, which will be held on March 20.
