UCSB Combined Athletes Fare Well on First Day of Big West Championships

IRVINE, Calif. -- Maureen Ajoku sits in second place in the heptathlon after day one of the Big West combined events championships with 3,158 points right behind Sherrina Lofton of Cal St. Northridge.
Maureen's highest score of the day was in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.88 and scoring 858 points. She also jumped 5'5.25" in the high jump to earn 806 points, the shot put at 38'3.5"to earn 639 points and the 200 meter dash in 25.35 to score 855 points.
In the decathlon, Derek Masterson is in fourth with 3,678 points and Josh Codding is in sixth with 3,306 points. Both Masterson and Codding's highest scoring events were in the 100 meter dash which Masterson ran in 11.35 to score 784 points and Codding ran 11.30 for 795 points.
The remainder of the combine events will take place tomorrow with the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500 meter run for the decathletes and long jump, javelin and 800 meter run left in the heptathlon.
