LA JOLLA, Calif. -- Scott Finley kept the streak of UCSB record-setting performances going for another week, breaking a 34 year-old Gaucho record in the pole vault at the UCSD Triton Invitational.
Finley cleared 17'2.50" (5.25m), tying for the win. He is the first Gaucho to clear 17 feet in the pole vault, eclipsing the previous school record of 16'7" set by Brady Lock in 1976.
Irene Kujore took second in the shot put with a seasonal best of 49'7" (15.11m), becoming only the second Gaucho to throw over 15 meters in the shot. She also took sixth in the discus with her best throw measuring 168'11" (51.48m).
Tayler Williams continued her strong streak in the triple jump, winning the meet with her best mark measuring 39'7.25" (12.07m).
Out on the track, Danielle Domenichelli was the winner of the 1500m with a time of 4:30.78. The Gauchos took the top six spots in the women's 1500m in a field of over 30 runners. For the men, Ryan Martin won the 800m with a time of 1:50.22.
Next weekend the Gauchos will travel to San Luis Obispo for the annual dual meet against Cal Poly. The team will also send a small contingent of athletes to the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford. Both meets are on Saturday, May 1.
