BOISE, Idaho -- Throwers and jumpers from the women's track team posted good results at the United Heritage Invitational, hosted by Boise State. The Gauchos had two event winners and two personal bests set at the meet.
Kayla Smith had a strong outing in the shot put for the second consecutive week, setting a new personal best by throwing 48-10 ¼ (14.98m). She was the winner of the competition, finishing more than a foot ahead of second-place finisher Sepla Hus from Utah State.
Jane Doolittle was the second event winner for UCSB, clearing 5-8 (1.73m) in the high jump on her second attempt. The Gauchos went one-two in the event, as Christina Nowak took second with a clearance over 5-4 ¼ (1.63m).
Other notable results included Jennifer Brown setting a new personal best in the pole vault, clearing 11-5 ¾ (3.50m) to take eighth place. Her mark was the fourth-highest bar cleared in the competition.
In the 60m hurdles, Amanda Lee was the winner of heat 3 with a time of 9.59. She placed ninth overall.
The Gauchos are off next weekend, and will begin their outdoor season on Feb. 21 with the Gaucho Round-Up. That meet will take place at Pauley Track on the UCSB campus.
