SEATTLE -- Jane Doolittle's second-place performance in the high jump highlighted the Gauchos' afternoon at the UW Invitational. More than one thousand collegiate athletes and professionals partook in the meet, held at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor facility.

Doolitte cleared 5-9.75 (1.77m) on her second attempt to finish second overall and first amongst collegiate athletes. The winner of the event was Deidre Mullen, who competed unattached and cleared 6-0.50 (1.84m). Zaina Akeh also notched a top-5 result for the Gauchos with her clearance of 5-5.75 (1.67m), which tied for fourth place.

In the shot put, Irene Kujore and Kayla Smith finished in the top-10. Kujore's throw of 44-8.75 (13.63m) is a new personal best that places her fifth in the Gaucho record book. She took eighth in the field of over 30 throwers. Following her in ninth place was Kayla Smith, who threw 43-10 (13.36m) in her first competitive meet since missing the entire 2009 season due to injury.

Out on the track, newcomer Jennifer Carey won both of her heats in the sprints. In the 400m she clocked a time of 58.19, which placed her 14th out of 44 runners. She later ran 26.11 in the 200m to place 27th out of 58 runners.

The Gaucho women will continue their indoor season next weekend at the United Heritage Invitational, which will be held Feb. 5-6 in Boise, Idaho.
