Paolo Wagner will volunteer as an assistant coach throughout the 2008 season.

Prior to joining the UCSB staff in July of 2006, Wagner was an assistant at Palos Verdes High School in Palos Verdes, Calif. The high point of Wagner's tenure was coaching Whitney Liehr to a second place finish in the heptathlon at the 2006 Junior Olympics.

Wagner spent 2001-2005 at West Torrance High School in Torrance, Calif. In his first season as head coach, he led the men's and women's teams to undefeated Bay League championships. During the 2005 campaign he also guided the women's distance medley relay team to a fifth place finish at the Nike Outdoor Nationals, which garnered them All-American status.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Wagner was instrumental in fundraising and oversaw the construction of a new all-weather track at West Torrance. He was also meet founder and director of the South Bay Championships and West Torrance All-Comers series.
