Began the 2010 season by setting a personal best in the 1500m at the Mt. SAC meet for a time of 4:37.20 and faster than any other Gaucho woman in the 2009 season...Placed ninth in the Cal/Nevada Meet with a time of 2:15.19 but qualified for the 800m heats with a time of 2:12.80 and placing ninth on the UCSB all-time 800m list.
Vitug placed sixth in the 800m at the Conference Championships, coming across the line in 2:14.24...She was the second-fastest freshman in the field...Clocked her fastest 800m time of the season at the Occidental Invitational, where she ran 2:14.08...Came from behind to win the 800m at the Cal Poly dual meet, running a 2:15.14...Also held the fastest 1500m time for the Gauchos with a 4:42.75, which she ran at the Cal Poly dual meet.
Vitug qualified for the California State Meet in 2006 and 2007, competing in the 800m...Was CIF-SDS champion in the 800m in 2006 and 2007...Was All-Eastern League all four seasons and was female athlete of the year (track) in 2007...Was all-section all four years...Eastern League champion in the 800m from 2005-2007...In 2006 she took fifth place at the Arcadia Invitational with an 800m time of 2:15.08...Also competed at the State Meet as a member of her team's 4x400m relay squad in 2005 and 2007...Was on honor roll all four years and graduated with Academic Distinction (top 7% of graduating class).
Vitug is majoring in communication and hopes to become either a broadcast journalist or be involved in sports medicine...Her hobbies include yoga, ballroom dancing, and rock climbing...Favorite music includes hip-hop, oldies, and slow jams...Favorite movies are Little Rascals, The Shawshank Redemption, and Miss Congeniality...Can best be described as driven and dedicated, and also loud and spontaneous...Her brother Steven is her inspiration, as he pursues his dream of becoming a professional boxer.
