|Position:||Assistant Coach - Javelin|
As last year's leading javelin thrower in the Big West, team MVP, two-time athlete of the week, and second best javelin thrower in school history, Gabe Mann is now contributing to the Gauchos as an assistant coach for John Dagata with the throws and jumps. Gabe, who was originally recruited by the UCSB baseball team, switched to track and field partway through his junior year to try his hand at throwing the spear. He immediately had a major impact in the event, boasting the top marks in the conference for both of his competition seasons. Twice he qualified for the West Regionals, and was ranked as high as 13th in the nation after having thrown the javelin for only 14 months. Gabe struggled with back injuries throughout his senior season, throwing his personal record and UCSB's second all-time mark of 222'02", off of a half approach during a preseason exhibition. Unfortunately, he was never able to push beyond that early mark, though he will continue to compete independently in the javelin throw. Gabe's specialty as a coach lies with the javelin throw, and he works closely with coach Bruce Kennedy with this year's strong javelin squad.
