UCSB Has Strong Showing at Mt. SAC, Bryan Clay Invite
The UC Santa Barbara men and women were split up between two meets this weekend. They had a handful of athletes competing at the Mt. SAC Invitational and others were at Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational. Between the two meets coaches were going back and forth to catch their athletes events and watch them compete against some very strong competition.
At Mt. SAC notable results included senior Amanda Rodriguez's effort in the 400 meter hurdles. Rodriguez broke her own school record in the event as she clocked a time of 59.58. Junior Dani Moreno had an outstanding effort in the 5k, recording a time of 16:33.87.
Senior Jen Carey also surprised herself at this meet going a 53.97 in the 400 meter dash. The 2013 season has been Carey's best and she has high hopes to win the 400 meters at next month's Big West Conference Championship. As she continues to shave time she is now less then a second off of the school record (53.37), which she is looking to break.
At Azusa Pacific highlights include sophomore Shyan Vaziri logging a personal best time in the 1,500 meter run (3:45.23), and junior Eric Severiano doing the same in the 200 meter dash (22.03).
Both Gaucho teams will travel to San Luis Obispo next weekend to compete in a dual meet against Cal Poly.
