Gaucho Alumni Shine at U.S. Track and Field Olympic Trials
EUGENE, Ore. – While recent UC Santa Barbara graduates Ryan Martin and Barbara Nwaba were posting impressive performances at their first U.S. Olympic Trials, they were joined in Eugene by several fellow Gaucho alums.
Amy Happanen, a 2007 graduate, tied Martin for the highest finish by a Gaucho at the trials after taking fourth place in the women's hammer throw. She posted a mark of 231-8 (70.63 meters).
Stephanie Rothstein, also a 2007 graduate, competed in the 1,000 meter and took eighth place in 32:24.25. Her classmate, Tetlo Emmen was 21st in the 800 meter, clocking in at 1:48.46.
Jane Doolittle, a 2010 graduate, competed in the high jump and finished in a four-way tie for 17th. She cleared 5'10 ½" and missed the event's finals based on misses.
Happanen, Rothstein and Emmen all also appeared at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials. This marked Doolittle's first trials appearance.
