DES MOINES, Iowa-- Barbara Nwaba currently holds onto second place after day one of the heptathlon event at the NCAA Division I Championships at Drake Stadium. Nwaba capped off day one with a total of 3,596 points while Oregon's Brianne Theisen holds the lead with 3,803 points.
Nwaba tied her personal best in high jump to tie Theisen for first at 6-0.5 (1.84m). Nwaba threw 39-9 (12.12m) in the shot put, ran 24.52 in the 200m dash and clocked in 14.08 in the 100m hurdles.
The remainder of the heptathlon events will be held tomorrow including the long jump, 800m, javelin.
